Technology Areas

Dr. Min Son, who is a founder of the firm, drafted the first Examination Guidelines for Biotechnological Inventions in late 1990s. Since then, the Guidelines have been revised four times, and as one of founders of the Life Science IP industry in Korea, HANOL has been in a unique position to follow and understand these changes, and enjoys a premier reputation in this high-technology area.

As can be seen from our member’s profiles, HANOL emphasizes the importance of deeply understanding a technology. Depending on their specialties, HANOL’s members are divided into five groups, and in each group, patent attorneys and patent scientists work together as a team.

The five practice groups are:
- Life Science & Biologics Group
- Chemistry & Pharmaceutical Group
- Engineering Group
- Trademark Group
- Legal Group

We prosecute patent applications before the Korean Intellectual Property Office, conduct patent searches (prior art and freedom-to-operate), provide opinions, trials and litigations, and also assist in licensing and commercializing innovations.
